National Dialogue on the Integration of the Productive Use of Solar Energy (PUSE) in the Planning and Budgeting for Agriculture in Uganda
Posted on: 2025-04-29 08:48:54

The Productive Use of Solar Energy (PUSE) in agriculture has a big potential to lead to the country’s sustainable development, economic growth, and poverty reduction. Solar energy can enhance agricultural productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and support sustainable agricultural practices. Access to affordable solar financing is crucial to integrate renewable energy solutions into key agricultural value chains. This requires a conducive policy environment that will bring various actors together to develop and implement solutions that will increase the rate of adoption of renewable energy in the agriculture value chains.
Heifer International Uganda in collaboration with its partners, and with support of the Mott Foundation is implementing the Distributed Renewable Energy Ecosystem Model (DREEM) Hub project with an overall goal to strengthen the PUSE ecosystem by stimulating access to productive use of solar energy services in agricultural value chains to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In collaboration with the Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (ACODE), Heifer International Uganda is currently involved in the implementation of multi-stakeholder engagements on the integration of renewable energy sources in the planning and budgeting processes.
It is on this premise that ACODE and Heifer International in Uganda are convening a dialogue at the national level on integrating renewable energy sources in the planning and budgeting processes at the national and sub-national processes.
